“Portrait of Nathaniel Olds,” painted by Jeptha Homer Wade (1837) Oil on canvas, 30x24in.

Spotted this gem in the Cleveland Museum of Art today. Supposedly, the green glasses were to protect his eyes from the bright-burning whale oil lamps, but we know the real reason.
