1. Winter’s Bone

   Best thing I saw all year. I actually cared what happened. Remember how movies can do that?

   
   

2. Toy Story 3

   Went to see this alone in a tiny theater in Estes Park, CO full of parents and kids. And yes, I cried.

   
   

3. Big Night

   “Who are these people in America?” Terrific movie. (on Netflix Watch Instantly)

   
   

4. In The Loop

   Hilarious.

   
   

5. Grey Gardens

   Endlessly quotable. (Netflix Watch Instantly)

   
   

6. Firefly (The Complete Series) + Serenity

   Not technically a movie, but you can sort of watch it all in one go like one. An excellent way to blow a weekend. (Netflix Watch Instantly)

   
   

7. Tyson

   I probably recommended this more than any other movie this year, just because I was so surprised how much I liked it.

   
   

8. Lovers of Hate

   This is my buddy Bryan Poyser’s movie. I saw a rough cut, and then I saw it premiere at SXSW. I’m biased, sure, but he also got nominated for a Spirit award for it, so add it to your Netflix queue.

   
   

9. American Movie

   So great. I’m only a decade late to this one…

   
   

10. The T.A.M.I. Show

    This goes here almost solely for the James Brown performance.
