TUMBLR
A scrapbook of stuff I'm reading / looking at / listening to / thinking about...
I get to become a Dad very soon as well, and I have really enjoyed your instagram photos sharing your experience. How do you find balancing that new role in your life with still finding the time for creativity: and not be distracted?
Hey congrats! Becoming a father is a crazy mindfuck, so strap in.
It’s not that different from having an intense day job: you just have to manage your time really carefully. Set aside as much regular time as you can (a daily, routine block when you’re not on kid duty, even 15 minutes, preferably 90), and then steal as much time as you can in the cracks between naps, etc.
I will warn you: the first month I did nothing but take care of him and my wife and occasionally check twitter. It gets a lot better after a month.
I also wrote something about not listening to bitter parents who tell you your life is over: http://www.austinkleon.com/2013/02/09/on-writing-post-fatherhood/
Good luck! And oh, here’s my “parenting” tag: http://tumblr.austinkleon.com/tagged/parenting16 notes
