Oh yes, I have a wife, a dog, and a little house. I’m sort of a domestic fellow.

My wife Meghan is the brains of our outfit. We met at the dining hall at college in 2003. She says she first noticed me because I was telling an off-color joke and cutting up my salad. We’ve been together since then. We got married Dec. 30th, 2006, in a chapel a few hundred feet from that dining hall.

She is a brilliant person and extremely introverted. The opposite of me: I’m dumb and I talk a lot.

She’s also a gorgeous blonde.

She’s the whole reason we live in Texas: we moved here so she could get her Master’s in sustainable design at the UT School of Architecture. Now she’s getting her PhD! (Like I said: way smarter than me.)

What else? She’s a fantastic baker, cook and crafter. I’m hoping one day I get rich so she can quit working and open a bakery, a la Maggie Gyllenhaal in Stranger Than Fiction.

And she’s a speed reader. A way way better reader than me. She was the type of kid to stay up all night under a blanket with a flashlight, reading books. (Jonathan Franzen says there are two types of readers, one more likely to become a writer. She’s the one kind, I’m the other.)

She’s also an Agatha Christie junkie, and the person I write for. (See: Frances McDormand in Wonder Boys.) She basically edited my book, came up with the sequence of the poems and everything. I make her look at everything before everyone else does. (She puts up with way more than you can even imagine.) The book is dedicated to her.

It delights me to no end when people meet her and say they recognize her because of the way I cartoon her on the blog. I could draw her blindfolded (but I’d never want to).

Hopefully she won’t be mad at me for talking about her at such length.

My wife, Meghan.
