Charles Portis, Gringos

I’ve now read 4/5 of Portis’s books. I can’t tell you what they were about, but they took me on a ride. (That’s called “fiction.”) And as Portis writes in this one, “Short was good in a book.”

A couple of good sentences:

“We had both known the despair of trying to sell things that nobody wanted.”

“The trick is to make yourself first useful and then necessary.”
