RANDALL MUNROE (XKCD) ON MAKING COMICS

According to this article, Munroe says there are 3 ways he makes XKCD:

1. starting from the punch line and working backwards

2. setting up a situation and letting it play out

3. drawing a panel somewhere in the middle and working to both ends of the strip

On using personal experiences for material:

Two years is about the time it takes to stop being emo about things and make it funny.

A rambling appreciation of the Perry Bible Fellowship

Makes a wonderful observation: in Nicholas Gurewitch’s strips, color is often used as a punchline.  

PBF is definitely one of my favorite strip comics, along with Achewood and XKCD, because it doesn’t just create a world—it’s a UNIVERSE of worlds.
